Children, Youth & Teens

Children, youth, and teens have access to year-round programs, sports, clubs, and support services on and around Carlisle Barracks—helping them stay active, connected, and thriving throughout the War College year.

Sgt. Andrew McConnell Youth Center offers a demonstration kitchen for cooking classes, a full-size gym and patio, and an interchangeable sports court for roller skating, roller hockey, basketball, and much more.

Teens can participate in outdoor activities, arts & crafts, 4-H Club, Triple Play, and video game tournaments. Special events are offered throughout the year, including field trips to area locations.

On-post Organized Sports are offered during the fall, winter, and spring months, including soccer, basketball, and home-school fitness programs. Teens often 'give back' by volunteering for the youth sports programs they enjoyed when they were younger.

Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania (GSHPA)

Troop #10540 lives out the mission of the Girl Scouts of the USA: "To build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place." Girl scouting provides girls with opportunities for fun and friendship while empowering them to develop their leadership skills, values, and self-esteem.

The troop offers many enriching experiences, including outdoor activities like camping, geocaching, hiking, extraordinary field trips, community service projects, environmental awareness and stewardship events, cultural exchanges like World Thinking Day, and various summer camp opportunities.

The Carlisle Barracks troop accepts all girls in grades K-12, and they may join at any time of the year. The troop is always looking for adult volunteers to coach, mentor, and guide girls along their journey. GSHPA Facebook

Each Summer, Carlisle Barracks hosts a 4-H/ U.S. Army Babysitting Course at the McConnell Center.

The course is open to CYSS members 13-18, but if spots remain after the initial registration, the class will be open to 12-year-olds who wish to participate until the class is full. There is no charge for the class, but there is a minimum of 15 students to hold the class with a maximum of 20. The course is offered over two days. You must attend both days of the session to become certified.

Participants will learn fire safety, developmental activities, how to identify child abuse, age-appropriate activities they can do with the children, and how to prepare healthy snacks. They will also receive CPR and first aid training.

Those who complete the course can be placed on the Carlisle Barracks babysitting referral list, which is encouraged for all babysitters. People interested in receiving a copy of the babysitting list can get one from Youth Services or the Moore Child Development Center. For more information, call (571) 821-8441.
