Courses
DMH offers the most intellectually rigorous component of the CGSOC curriculum. Students routinely comment on the faculty’s commitment to challenging their shared assumptions about history and their place within the Army, American society, and the world. All officers receive two history courses: during Common Core, the DMH curriculum is “History, Theory, Doctrine, and Practice.” The Advanced Operations Course follows, where students examine “The American Way of War and its Challenges.” Faculty members bring their specific expertise and understanding to these topics within the common lesson objectives. During electives, faculty develop classes based on their expertise. Some current elective offerings include “Military Theorists,” “The Chinese Way of War,” “Race and Gender in U.S. Military History,” “History of Genocide,” “20th Century Urban Operations,” “Women at War,” “German Military History,” and “The Roots of Conflict in the Middle East.”
