Deputy Director, Marine Corps War College China Warfighting Initiative, CLSC Affiliate
Daniel Rice is the Deputy Director of the Marine Corps War College China Warfighting Initiative where he leads Marine Corps University's research and education on China and the People's Liberation Army. At MCWAR Dan is the co-founder and co-editor of the China Military Studies Review, the only academic journal dedicated to scholarship on Chinese military affairs. He is also founder and manager of the China Scholars Program for students at Marine Corps University. Outside of academia, Dan is the President of Dong Feng LLC, a consulting company which specializes on research and education on national security and China-related topics. Through his work with Dong Feng, he is a founding instructor of the Booz Allen China Way of War course and has traveled across PACOM in support of USARPAC.
In addition to his formal responsibilities Dan is an Associate of the China Aerospace Studies Institute, an Affiliate of the China Landpower Studies Institute, a non-Resident Fellow of the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies, and a Term Member at the Council on Foreign Relations.
Dan's research, in both English and Chinese, has been published across the various U.S. War Colleges, Taiwan's National Defense University, and in think tanks and other major media outlets. He holds a master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies and a certificate in Chinese studies from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center. Dan is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
