BACKGROUND
In 2020, the Dean of Academics was tasked to develop a research track for select CGSC students focused on information advantage. The track was to address emerging issues in AI, ML, Cyber, Data Analytics, Robotics, and Information Warfare.
The program is MMAS research centered and accepted students must produce a thesis of publishable quality. The research topics are student driven. Typically addressing aspects of IA like technology integration, leadership, history, current doctrine, future practice, AI integration, multidomain operations/Convergence, Narrative Warfare, Civil-Military Information and many others. Research methodologies are qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods.
The scholars are given opportunities to engage with the Joint Staff, services, major commands, academia, and industry.

REQUIREMENTS
- Open to US Students enrolled in Resident CGSC Only
- Requires TS/SCI Clearance
- Must maintain a 3.7 GPA – Core / Pass X100
- Must enroll in A211 – Research Methodology elective
- Thinking, Writing, and Research Skills
- SGA Recommendation and recommendations from MMAS committee members

HOW TO BECOME AN IA SCHOLAR
- August: Work on your research topic
- Register for A211 Research Methodology elective
- Make an appointment with Mr. Im (peter.s.im.civ@army.mil)
- Let your SGA know you plan to apply for IA Scholars
- Strive for excellence in Core lessons - GPA, writing, etc.
- September: Receive Application packet
- October: Submit application for IA Scholars due.
- November: IAS Interviews - not all applicants are invited to interview.
- During X100: Deputy Commandant approves the final selections.
- After X100: Selected scholars notified and move to form SG 21A.
