ASEP-T is a required strategic leader course for LTG and below Regular Army (USAR/NGB, with Active Federal Service (AFS) retirement); Generals (GENs) are welcome to attend in class; however, can be provided with a desk-side brief, as requested. The course prepares GOs for one of the more significant events of their lives, the transition from military life into the private sector. It includes critical administrative information regarding the processes of departing Army service. The course also provides GOs with comprehensive education on determining their personal private sector objectives and developing the skills and strategies to reach those objectives.
Order of precedence, in seat allocation:
- Regular Army (RA) GOs with retirement dates within zero (0) to six (6) months;
- RA GOs with retirement dates within seven (7) to twelve (12) months;
- USAR or NGB GOs (with AFS retirement eligibility) with retirement dates within 12 months;
- All others (with AFS retirement).
NOTE: Spouse travel is to be approved on a case-by-case basis. Per diem is not authorized for spouses attending ASEP-T; only travel expenses. Approval authority for accompanying spouse travel to ASEP-T for GO’s outside HQDA is delegated to four-star Army commanders for their own spouses and the spouses of individuals within their organizations. Approval authority for accompanying spouse travel to ASEP-T inside HQDA is the VCSA (delegated to the DAS). Funding for spouse travel to ASEP-T is also command funded, and the command retains the discretion not to fund the travel.
